Widespread interest in Nordic cooperation on clinical studies
The Nordic Trial Alliance held its first conference on 31 January in Copenhagen. It was a promising start for the new Nordic initiative on clinical studies. The Nordic Trial Alliance, an initiative associated with the Nordic Council of Ministers’ programme on sustainable Nordic welfare, is designed to increase cooperation on multi-centre clinical trials in the Nordic countries. NordForsk will host the secretariat for coordinating the collaboration project, which is entering a three-year pilot phase.
Open Access to Data: Europe heading for free movement of knowledge
How do we implement open access to data? And what are the next steps? These were some of the key questions raised at a seminar in Brussels on 5 February 2013. NordForsk had invited representatives of the European Commission and several research and science organisation to discuss some of the challenges facing scientists and politicians aiming to achieve the European Research Area (ERA).
New call for proposals under the Nordic eScience Globalisation Initiative (NeGI): "eScience in Health and Social Preconditions for Health"
The steering Committee in the Nordic eScience Globalisation Initiative (NeGI) has decided to allocate approximately NOK 40 million to the establishment of 1 - 2 Nordic Centres of Excellence (NCoEs) for eScience research on the use of genetic/molecular data and clinical/population registries for research in health and social preconditions for health. This involves development of methods and tools for advanced data integration, data analysis, modelling and simulation for research related to health.The NeGI NCoE should work to enhance expertise and build long-lasting networks of researchers.

Director in NordForsk ,Gunnel Gustafsson, thinks NordForsk in 2012 has moved forward at high speed, both in terms of extending the portfolio thematically and research infrastructure collaboration. NordForsk is also now more directed towards European and international cooperation, she tells ResearchMedia Ltd.
Final Symposium of the Programme on Food, Nutrition and Health
The three Nordic Centres of Excellence within the programme on Food, Nutrition and Health will be organising a final symposium 14-15 March 2013 in Copenhagen to summarise the research carried out in the period from 2007 to 2012. The symposium is open to all parties interested in this field.
