The knowledge triangle crosses traditional sectoral boundaries
The knowledge triangle – the interaction between education, research and innovation – was the topic of a knowledge conference held in Turku, Finland, on 23 August 2011. For a knowledge triangle to function optimally, each of the three components must support the others and be given equal weight, and there must be a political policy in place to facilitate this. Many of the conference participants believe that it will also be possible to achieve this at the Nordic level.
Ground-breaking Nordic study of colorectal cancer possible by joint biobank registry
Nordic researchers are launching a pilot study on Joint Nordic Biobank Research Infrastructure, a transboundary collaboration on colorectal cancer research. Scientists within the Nordic region will be sharing information and infrastructure through a common biobank registry in order to enhance knowledge about the causes of colorectal cancer.

Finns name new Minister for Nordic Co-operation
After protracted negotiations, Finland has a new government. Alexander Stubb, the new Minister for Europe and Foreign Trade will double as Minister for Nordic Co-operation. "The different parts of the portfolio match and underpin each other well. I look forward to the new challenges with great enthusiasm," he says.
