The concept One Health recognises the relationship between disease and health in humans and animals, and the environment in which we are operating. To understand the origin and spread of contagious diseases there is a need for a holistic perspective on the interaction between humans, animals, nature, and the environment.
The Nordic countries are leading the way in several areas of One Health, one of which is antibiotic resistance, the topic for this fringe event. It is important to co-ordinate and disseminate Nordic experiences and knowledge in preventative measures and disease control. This can help to increase Nordic competitiveness and put focus on this area globally.
Following a presentation of the Nordic model One Health, there will be a panel debate and finally a brief question and answer session. After the fringe event, the Joint Committee of the Nordic Medical Research Councils (NOS-M) will launch its white paper on medical research in the region in co-operation with NordForsk. A glass of sparkling wine will be served.
