”Finland needs fewer but larger universities”

22.12.2005
“A radical structural change is needed in order to improve the competitiveness of Finnish universities. Finland needs larger but fewer universities", says the Finnish Minister of Education, Antti Kalliomäki.
Kalliomäki underlines that the Finnish Ministry of Education is willing to support new consorts, and promises “carrot-money” for collaboration projects between universities and university colleges.

The Minister is also planning a survey on the current degree of economical autonomy of Finnish universities and university colleges.
