7 million Euro for food research in Finland

The Academy of Finland lauches a new research programme on Nutrition, Food and Health called ELVIRA. "One of the goals of the programme is to establish new collaborative and cross-disciplinary networks within and between research institutions", says Programme Manager Sirpa Nuotio.
"In addition, the programme seeks to reinforce knowledge transfer and cooperation between the scientific community, enterprises and public authorities", continues Sirpa Nuotio from the Academy of Finland. The knowledge gained from the programme will have impact on society and the economy in addition to the scientific outcome itself.

The Academy has allocated seven million Euro to ELVIRA, and further funding is provided by Tekes and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. Researchers can now apply for project funding within the programme that has been scheduled to run until 2010.
