Academy of Finland praised in new review

05.09.2006
The Academy of Finland has a well-defined role in the Finnish innovation system, both in and outside academia. Also, the Academy receives exceptionally scarce criticism, according to professor Jussi Huttunen, who chaired a panlel of experts in the review of the Academy.
The panel was appointed by the Academy of Finland to assess the impact of the Academy funding and to give its recommendations for the strengthening of this impact.

According to the panel the Academy funding has had a key role in facilitating independent research and in promoting its quality throughout Finland. This especially applies to basic research. The Academy is also praised for its procedures for reviewing applications for research grants.
