Anders Örn new rector at NorFA

On a proposal from NorFA‘s board the Nordic Council of Ministers of Education and Research have appointed professor Anders Örn of Karolinska Institutet (Sweden) as new rector at NorFA for a period of one year starting 1st Februart 2004.
Anders Örn is professor of immunology at Swedish medical university Karolinska Institutet where he has been employed since 1982, first as a research scientist, as a docent from 1986 ans as a full professor since 2001. His phd thesis was presented at Uppsala University in 1981, the theme being Natural Killer cells. Among other places Anders Örn has done research in Pasadena and New York, USA, and had co-operated with Latin American universities on tutoring of phd students.

In addition, Örn has been responsible for a number of courses for phd students and was secretary general for the international congress of immunology in Stockholm in 2001. Örn has also been president for Nordic Society for Immunology since 2001. His research has received funding from, in addition to Karolinska Institutet, Cancerfonden, Sida/SAREC, Astra Zeneca, Medicinska forskningsrådet og Vetenskapsrådet, to mention a few.

Anders Örn is the successor of Hans Gudmundsson who, after four years at NorFA accepted an offer to become director of Rannis (Iceland‘s research council).
