Anneli Pauli to DG Research

Dr. Anneli Pauli, former Deputy Director General of the JRC, has been appointed Deputy Director General of the European Commission‘s Research Directorate General. Dr Pauli will in particular be responsible for advancing the Commission‘s efforts in creating a European Research area, a field in which she has extensive professional experience. Anneli Pauli was Vice Chair at NordForsk’s board from February 2005 – December 2006.
Anneli Pauli was appointed Deputy Director-General for EU’s Joint Research Centre in April 2007. From 2001-2007 she was Vice President for research at the Academy of Finland. She has a doctor’s degree in microbial ecology from the University of Helsinki.

The Research Directorate General acts as catalyst and coordinator of the European Research Area. The Director General is José Manuel Silva Rodríguez.

The Directorate’s mission can be summarised as follows:
  • to develop the European Union’s policy in the field of research and technological development and thereby contribute to the international competitiveness of European industry;
  • to coordinate European research activities with those carried out at the level of the Member States;
  • to support the Union’s policies in other fields such as environment, health, energy, regional development etc;
  • to promote a better understanding of the role of science in modern societies and stimulate a public debate about research-related issues at European level.
