Call for papers: Research Policy Conference on Nordic Societal Security and Safety

01.04.2008
Are there common denominators for Nordic societies that influence the ways we go about societal security and safety? Are we facing the same challenges? Do we have the same perception of the threats to environment, infrastructure, people and the way we organise our societies in the Nordic region? These are some of the questions to be addressed at a Nordic research conference organised by the Research Council of Norway (RCN) 1-2 September 2008.
The aims of the conference are to deepen the understanding on the specificities of Nordic thinking about societal safety and security; to stimulate Nordic cooperation within the field of societal safety and security and to create a forum and stimulate collaboration also between Nordic researchers in this field. The conference also aims to bridge the gap between academia, government agencies, politicians and the civil society and to create a basis for Nordic participation in the EU Framework Programme for Research.

Papers to be presented at the conference should relate to one of the following five topics (= the main topics of the RCN research programme SAMRISK):
  1. Technology, society, organisation and place
  2. Risk, vulnerability and risk tolerance
  3. Policy, governance and regulations
  4. Security and society
  5. Crisis management and communication

Abstracts must be submitted before 14 April 2008.
