Crossing borders

04.04.2014
How has researcher mobility developed in recent years? What types of incentives exist, and what types of obstacles prevent researchers from mobility? These are key issues for the latest NordForsk Policy Paper: Crossing Borders – Obstacles and incentives to researcher mobility.

The new report consists of two studies, each providing extensive data on researcher mobility in the Nordic region and beyond. The first study approaches mobility issues from the policy angle, describing recent trends and rates of mobility among Nordic researchers compared to the situation in the rest of the Europe. The second study is based on interviews with individual Nordic researchers, aiming to find out how the researchers perceive mobility. What motivates them to move around? What kind of obstacles are the most difficult to overcome?

- Researcher mobility is one of the key issues when accomplishing Nordic added value in research, says NordForsk Director, Gunnel Gustafsson. - My hope is therefore that this report will be discussed and used to enhance development of researcher mobility.
