Finnish professors protest against unpaid overtime

24.01.2006
The Finnish Union of University Professors says unpaid overtime among the professors is the only reason for the increased productivity in Finnish universities.
Preliminary numbers from Statistics Finland indicate that professors and teachng staff clock an average of ten hours of unpaid overtime each week. The union thinks the number of overtime hours is the direct result of the fact that the number of students has increased by 30-100 percent the last decade, whereas the numner of teaching staff has only grown by three per cent in the same period.
