Former Finnish Academy President to chair new ESF committee

The European Science Foundation ESF has appointed Professor Raimo Väyrynen, the former President of the Academy of Finland, Chair of its new Science Advisory Board. The Advisory Board will, among other things, advise the CEO on measures to be taken to reinforce the European Research Area.
The Science Advisory Board will monitor and review the scientific orientation of ESF‘s activities. It comprises the five chairs of the ESF Standing Committees, five high-ranked independent scientists with a track record of broad strategic vision and an independent chair - Professor Väyrynen, Director of the Finnish Institute of International Affairs

The ESF is a broad-based international foundation that aims to provide funding for and advance high-quality European basic research, for example through scientific foresighting, international research programmes, research networks and conferences.
