Iceland in EU-discussions on small countries and research

Ministers and rectors from six European countries with only one national university each met recently in Luxembourg for an informal exchange of views. Iceland was represented at the meeting.
Representatives from Icland, Cyprus, Malta, Andorra, Lichtenstein and Luxembourg dicsussed how to ensure the autonomy of the universities whilst guaranteeing that they respond to economic and social objectives. All countries have the objective of excellence in research and views on thos were up for discussion. The talks will continue in Andorra this autumn.
