Increase in achieved doctoral degrees in Norway

The last decade in Norway there has been an increase of 55 % in completed doctoreal degrees, numbers from NIFU indicate.

In 1991, 415 degrees were completed, whereas 645 were achieved in 2000. The number of women completing the degree is also increasing however, in the technological field numbers are still low. The numbers also indicate that 3 of 4 students complete the degree.

Numbers from 1999 show that universities and colleges funded 33 % of the positions, the Norwegian Council of Research funded 45 %, and 22 % of the funding came from other institutions.
