More candidates defending thesis in Bergen
Last semester the University of Bergen broke its old record in number of persons defending their doctoral thesis: 94 persons compared to 56 the previous semester. The average age of the candidates was lower than the national average.
Rector at UiB, Kirsti Koch Christensen, is delighted with the results, but doubts that the numbers can be maintained. She is surprised that the women defending their thesis were younger than the men on average. 33 percent of the candidates were women.
41 percent of the thesis were defended at the faculty of mathematics and science, and the average age of the candidates was 32,9 compared to 33,7 on average for the nation.
