More research schools and PhD students in Finland

The Finnish Minister of education Tuula Haatainen has decided to increase the number of research schools from 114 to 124. At the same time it was decided to have 1458 research students during the period from 2006-2009.
Most of the Finnish research schools are networks between different universities and research institutes. All Finnish universities participate in a research school network. The research schools are time limited programs where the students study full time, and are able to take their PhD exam after four years.
