The increase of women at basic level does not necessarily mean anything when positions are being filled. 45 percent of Swedish doctoral students are women, but the majority disappears from academia after their dissertation.

The research newspaper Dagens Forskning (‘Today‘s research‘) asks if womens‘ research has a different focus than mens‘. - Yes it does, but it is far from obvious that womens‘ interests have a place in research, says journalist Beata Arnborg.

Women often choose so-called "soft" subjects. Earlier these fields were impossible as subjects for scientific investigations, whereas now "everyday questions" may very well have this function. However, the increase in women researchers will also lead to greater diversity in research. Women and men look at the same subjects differenty and awareness is growing that we need to complete our perceptions of reality.
