National and International recognition for NordAqua-leader

Professor Eva-Mari Aro elected Foreign Associate of the National Academy of Sciences and awarded the 2018 Academy Award by the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters.

In April, Professor Eva-Mari Aro, who leads the NordForsk-funded Nordic Centre of Excellence (NCoE) NordAqua, was awarded the "Academy Award" by the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters. This is the academy’s most prominent award, and is given annually to a distinguished member of the Academy for their scholarly achievements.

In May she was elected as a "Foreign Associate" of the prestigious US National Academy of Sciences. New Academy members are elected by existing members for their "distinguished and continuing achievements in original research." Professor Aro is one of 484 Foreign Associates who have been elected since the founding of the National Academy of Sciences in 1863.
