Network for synchrotron and neutron infrastructure

09.07.2014
The network will promote the use of infrastructure for synchrotron and neutron techniques in research.

The network has been allocated NOK 500 000 in funding for a two-year period from 2015 to 2016, and  will be headed by the MAX IV Laboratory, via Life Science Director Tomas Lundqvist, and the Centre for Neutron Scattering at Uppsala University, via Professor Adrian Rennie, and affiliated researchers Maja Hellsing and Martin Sahlberg.

Significant investments in research infrastructure are being made at the national, Nordic and European levels, through the European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRI) among others. One of the larger-scale initiatives in Sweden, Denmark and Norway is in synchrotron infrastructure at the European Spallation Source (ESS). In order to strengthen synchrotron and neutron networks, a network has been launched for mutual knowledge transfer and establishment of best practices in using research infrastructure.

Key objectives of the network include mobilising new research groups to employ synchrotron and/or neutron facilities in their research, introducing young researchers to advanced infrastructure and training them in its use, building stronger ties to European research groups and promoting Nordic research that uses synchrotron and neutron infrastructure.
