The Danish Parliament has passed a bill on research financing that will lead to increased competition and more quality assessment of public research funding, says the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation in a press release.

The new establishment Det Strategiske Forskningsråd (‘strategic research council‘) will support research in politically prioritised areas as well as thematically limited subjects. The new legislation also brings more coherence in the research financing system. A co-ordinating group will be established, containing members from the research councils, universities and the sector.
