-Norway can become a leading Nordic knowledge society

10.10.2005
-Norway can become a leading knowledge society of the same level as our Nordic neighbouring countries if the Government goes for quality in basic research, says director Arvid Hallén of the Norwegian Research Council in an article in the newspaper Dagsavisen.
Hallén points out the fact that a considerable increase in research and innovation funding is necessary in order to reach the goals of increased employment, welfare and regional industrial development that the three red-green parties currently in governmental negociations have set up.

Hallén thinks Norwegian research is in progress through increased quality in basic research, high level of research at the universities in spite of the educational reformation, increased internationalisation of Norwegian research and increased level of research activities in the industry. The director of the Research Council therefore thinks that Norway can become a leading knowledge society at the same level as the other Nordic countries.
