Norway: Finance minister follows up promised research policy

Norwegian Minister of Finance Kristin Halvorsen promises to follow up the previous government‘s policy on research. "The objective of three percent of GDP for research is still valid", she stated in a conference arranged by Unio, a workers‘ union for academics.
The Minister of Finance focused on Norway‘s position as a wealthy country in an international context:
"We are a rich country. However, the danger of our wealth is that we do not realise that we need to invest for the future. When Finland and Ireland can do it without incomes from a petroleum industry, then surely we must be able to. Halvorsen doubts that the industry will manage to provide the planned two thirds of the three percent, and thinks the state needs to invest even more in research.
