Norway protects research positions for women

The Norwegian government confirms its statement that the reservation for women of a number of research positions at the University of Oslo (UiO) does accord with the EEA agreement.

The EFTA supervising authority of ESA states the opposite by referring to a principle of equality. After new discussions Norway still claims that their view is according to the rules. This desicion can lead to the case being treated in the EFTA court of justice.

In 1988 the UiO first reserved 20 postdoc positions for women and the university‘s action plan for equality states that in the coming years, more positions shall be reserved for women applicants.
