Opened Icelandic institute for sustainable development

Icelandic Minister of Education Thorgerdur Katrin Gunnarsdottir officially inaugurated the new University of Iceland Institute for Sustainable Development. The main tasks of the institute will be interdisciplinary international research and education.
It is expected that the institute will be a cooperative organ between research environments and authorities, institutes, enterprises and private individuals. The new institute takes over the tasks of the former University of Iceland Environmental Research Institute and the Fisheries Research Institute. Disciplines that are relevant to the new institute are environmental science, biology, ecology, engineering, social sciences, law, economy, ethics and health science.
