Per Unckel leaves Nordic Council of Ministers

After four years as the secretary general of the Nordic Council of Ministers Per Unckel does not wish to have his contract prolonged when it ends on 1st January 2007. "It has not been an easy decision to pass up on all the challenging and stimulating tasks ahead," says Unckel.
During his four years as secretary general Per Unckel has worked to make the Nordic cooperation more efficient and even more open to the Baltic Sea region and the EU.

Per Unckel was born in 1948 and studied law at the University of Uppsala. He was elected to the Swedish Parliament in 1976. He has been secretary of the Moderate Party, Minister for Education, spokesperson of the Moderate Party on labour market issues, chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on the Constitution. In 1999, he was elected leader of the Moderate parliamentary party.

Per Unckel will stay in the position as Secretary General till the end of 2006.
