Director General of the Norwegian Research Council, Christian Hambro, is pleased with the Bondevik Government‘s proposal of a national budget that was presented on 3 October. Still, this budget will not bring Norway closer to the OECD average of research spendings, states Hambro.

Hambro compliments the Government on its proposal for a national budget. The Government‘s will to invest in research is clearly demonstrated both in the direct grants and in the expansion of the funding of R&D activities in the industry.

Basic research will see a growth in 2003, as will petroleum and maritime research. The amount reserved for purchases of advanced scientific equipment, too, is higher than it has been for amny years.

However, the investment in petroleum research is far from adequate, says Hambro.
