Pre-announcement: Sustainable Urban Development and Smart Cities

NordForsk, Academy of Finland, Formas, the Swedish Research Council for Sustainable Development, Forte, the Swedish Research Council for Health, Working Life and Welfare, the Swedish Energy Agency and the Research Council of Norway, are collaborating to fund research in the fields of sustainable urban development and smart cities. Four research projects with a budget of maximum NOK 12.5 million each will be funded. Tentatively, a call for proposals will be issued in 14 March 2019 with application deadline of 4 June 2019.

The aim of the Nordic Programme on Sustainable Urban Development and Smart Cities is to promote cooperation between the knowledge communities in the Nordic countries in order to enhance opportunities and address challenges relating to sustainable urban development and smart cities. The main objectives of the programme are to enhance Nordic research collaboration and to fund excellent research with impact within and beyond academia. The programme seeks to develop innovative and interdisciplinary analyses and methods in studies of urban development smart cities and use of essential knowledge for successful implementation.     

Who is eligible to apply? 

The scheme is open to applications from eligible researchers based at universities, universities of applied sciences or research institutes located in Danmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden, irrespective of their nationality. The host institution that coordinates the research project must be a research-performing institution located in one of the participating countries. 

In each funded project, the consortium must consist of researchers from research-performing institutions in at least three Nordic countries and public stakeholders. Applicants will be encouraged to incorporate early, continuous and active engagement with stakeholders, such as policymakers, and civil society, into the project design
