Proposal of simplified regulations for visiting researchers

07.11.2006
In Sweden, a proposal has been made to simplify the regulations for visiting researchers from outside the European Economic Area. "The proposal only concerns visiting researchers. No other professional groups are included in the regulations that we propose," says analyst Lars Lundgren.
In the proposal they suggest that every public or private organisation that wishes to receive visiting researchers should be authorised by Vinnova. After the authorisation, the organisation should present a permit that the visiting professor uses when she or he applies for a temporary work permit in Sweden.

The proposal refers to the EU goal of spending 3 percent of GDP on research before 2010, which makes it necessary for the EU to import approximately 700.000 researchers.
