Reijo Vihko honorary doctor at the Karolinska Institutet

Reijo Vihko, Acting Director at the Nordic Research Board, will be awarded an honorary doctorate in medicine at Karolinska Institutet. Vihko is honored for providing a powerful voice in research policy in the Nordic region and internationally.
Reijo Vihko is former Director General of the Academy of Finland, and is known for promoting elite research and scientific evaluations. Professor Vihko‘s research in clinical chemistry has touched on areas such as steroids in humans, steroid receptors, and hormone-dependent cancer. Between 1971 and 2004, he held a professorship in clinical chemistry at Uleåborg University, where he established one of the Nordic region‘s most advanced clinical chemistry laboratories.

Professor Vihko has participated in the work of several international research organisations and associations, including th ESF Governing Council, the Nordic Science Policy Council, the High Council of the European University Institute in Florence, Italy, and of the Scientific and Technical Advisory Group of the World Health Organisation.

Reijo Vihko is Acting Director and head of external activities in the Nordic Research Board until the appointment of a director.

The conferment ceremony will take place in Stockholm City Hall on 13 May.
