Successful kick-off for the new researcher networks

19.10.2010
40 participants from the 37 new Nordic researcher networks gathered in Oslo 14-15 October for dialogue and networking.
A kick-off for new researcher networks is an annual event where project managers or other representatives from the new networks of the year meet to become better acquainted with each other and with NordForsk.

Researchers from a wide range of different scientific disciplines meet and present their networks. The presentations show a wide range of research areas, from learning in virtual environments to climate research. So how can the participants benefit from meeting dozens of other networks working with very different subjects?

- It is our experience that project managers both enjoy and benefit from the kick-off, says Erlendur Helgason, Senior adviser at NordForsk and the organiser of the annual kick-off. - They get to know NordForsk and we can provide practical advice, but just as much they are here to meet colleagues, some of them working with research disciplines they might not know existed. This can be really inspiring. Meeting peers and researchers from their own institutions may also be of mutual benefit in the future.

- During these days I have come in contact with other networks that I would like to collaborate with, and that adds value", stated Geir Helgesen, Director of the network "Mapping the Mental Landscapes of Eurasia".
