-We include the Baltic states as members of the Nordic family, said Norwegian Minister for Nordic co-operation, Svein Ludvigsen, when opening an information seminar in Vilnius arranged by four Nordic institutions (including NorFA) June 12th.

Svein Ludvigsen emphasised that the Nordic co-operation had a new dimension when the Baltic states became independent. This co-operation can contribute to securing a sustainable development in the entire region.

The Lithuanian Minister of foreign affairs, Antanas Valionis, said in his opening speech that even though Lithuania now makes the step towards EU, the Nordic region will still be a key partner in order to open the market and develop the country‘s economy. Lithuania has experienced a great economic growth these last years, and the country can be compared to a tunnel beween north and south, east and west, the minister said.
