Sweden announces grants for top level research environments
The Swedish Research Council, VINNOVA, FORMAS and FAS announce 3 billion SEK for top level research environments in Sweden.
The initiative depends on the universities to decide which environments are to be consirered top level and thereby to compete for the grants. The grant periods will be of maximum 10 years, starting in 2006. This type of long-term financing of top level research is an important part of the Swedish government’s whitepaper on research recently passed by the Swedish parliament.
