Swedish juridical proposal: Universities responsible when scientific fraud

09.02.2006
The Swedish government now wishes to establish new rules in the university legislation making it clear that the universities themselves are responsible for investigating possible scientific fraud.
As early as in 2004 the Swedish Research Council asked for a revision of the legislation. Director general Pär Omling is positive to the proposal:
"It is important for the confidence of the general public. Above all the recent incidents show the need for clear rules. But just as important, the researchers need to discuss ethics and good practice and colleagues need to warn the authoroties when good practice is not carried out."
