"Thesis in Sweden should be written in English"

04.11.2005
Most thesis written at Swedish universities should be written in English, proposes the Swedish government in the new white paper on language policy. "I am a big fan of internationalisation, but I also want to protect the Swedish language", says Minister of Education, Leif Pagrotsky.
"I know this is a controversial issue, but we cannot take the English language away. For Sweden, international cooperation is very important. The research is international and Sweden must participate in this, Pagrotsky says.

The governement also underlines that the unviersities and colleges should make extensive summaries of the research results in Swedish.

"i believe it is important to communicate with the surrounding society, which is why we must develop a Swedish terminology", Pagrotsky says.
