Two new Nordic Centres of Excellence under the Societal Security Programme
On the basis of an external panel evaluation, the NordForsk board has decided to establish two new Nordic Centres of Excellence under the Nordic Societal Security Programme:
The NORDRESS Centre - Nordic Centre of Excellence on Resilience and Societal Security - has been allocated NOK 23 million. The head of the centre is Guðrún Gísladóttir of the Institute for Sustainability Studies (ISS) at the University of Iceland.
The Nordic Centre for Security Technologies and Societal Values has been allocated NOK 22 million. The head of the centre is James Peter Burgess of the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO).
The Nordic Centres of Excellence comprise NordForsk’s most important funding instrument and promote cooperation between outstanding researchers and research groups from a minimum of three Nordic countries. The centres’ activities are designed to enhance value creation within targeted priority areas in the Nordic countries.
The two new centres are being co-funded by Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden and NordForsk. The host institutions will be contributing funding as well.
