NordHorcs and joint committees for Nordic research
NordHorcs (Nordic Heads of Research Councils)
NordHorcs is a committee consisting of the Directors of the national research funding agencies in the Nordic countries. The aim of NordHorcs is to further develop Nordic research and research policy through cooperation and knowledge exchange.
Joint Committees for Nordic Research
The national research funding agencies of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Sweden and Norway collaborate in joint committees for research in the fields of humanities and social sciences (NOS-HS), medicine (NOS-M) and natural sciences (NOS-N). The aim is to enhance and stimulate Nordic research cooperation, e.g. through coordinating activities among the Nordic research councils and financing joint Nordic research projects.
The committees provide arenas where the research councils may exchange information on research policy, national funding strategies and priorities. They may discuss relevant joint Nordic initiatives, and follow up the international research debate and development of research disciplines.
The joint committees are independent from, but collaborate closely with the Nordic Council of Ministers, and NordForsk.
The Joint Committe for Nordic research councils in the Humanities and Social Sciences (NOS-HS) shall promote strategic cooperation e.g. through providing research funding to joint Nordic research activities.
NOS-M is a collaborating body for the Nordic research councils that finance medical research. NOS-M aims to promote Nordic cooperation in the field through information exchange, coordination and concrete collaboration projects.
NOS-N is a collaborating body for Nordic research councils that finance research in the natural sciences. The Committee aims to promote natural sciences in the Nordic countries through collaboration and coordination. NordForsk acts as secretariat for NOS-N.
