Publication Platform = Repository

The cornerstone of the rationalisation and modernisation of publishing in Nordic co-operation is the development of a single publication platform – a repository.

A repository is a well-structured, open source-based publishing platform with a customisable web interface. International standards for structuring metadata (OAI-PMH), as recommended by COAR (Confederation of Open Access Repositories)  must be adhered to.

The following institutions were invited to bid to set up a platform for the Nordic Council of Ministers:

Chalmers Library, Uppsala University Library/the DiVA Consortium, Lund University Library, the National Library of Finland, BIBSYS (Norway), Tromsø University Library, DTU Library samt and the Royal Library (Denmark). After a thorough tendering and evaluation process, the DiVA consortium was awarded the contract.

DiVA

The publications platform is on the DiVA platform. The DiVA repository is built on open systems (Fedora, Apache Solr and PostgreSQL). It is interoperable (OAI-PMH compliant) and based on international standards for repositories. DiVA is operated by a consortium of more than 30 universities and institutions (mainly in Sweden). Uppsala University Library developed and operates the platform, and undertakes regular updates and longer-term development projects.

Since 2000, DiVA has been continuously developed, and now offers more than 100,000 publications. In 2013, 15 million publications were downloaded from DiVA.
