Re-developing international theories of media and migration in a Nordic context (TheoryNord)

This network brings together the research fields of migration/ethnic relations studies and media studies and develops this inter-disciplinary area to a more sophisticated theoretical stage.

Currently, all Nordic countries are experiencing a rise of new populist parties that have restricted visions of immigration and integration policies. At the same time, new technologies, such as online journalism and social media (Facebook, Twitter, and Blogs) have emerged and offer platforms for new forms of civic participation and democracy.

This network divides its activities to three thematic research groups that cover the most pressing theoretical and empirical research areas in the Nordic context:

  1. Living in transnationality
  2. Affectivities, memory, and mediation
  3. Borders and boundaries

In addition, young scholars’ network is established to facilitate the development of doctoral training. Doctoral students participate in the three thematic groups, but in addition, their peer-support is facilitated through a new (sub)network.
