Systems Biology of Metabolism
Systems biology has evolved as a broad research field that offers the prospect of assisting in solving fundamental problems, e.g. the development of efficient cell factories for sustainable production of fuels and chemicals and for identification of treatment of complex human diseases. It is based on a combination of experimental/clinical work and mathematical modelling.
Through mathematical modelling it is possible to study the interaction between a large number of variables and hereby new patterns in complex networks can be identified.
This research network focuses on metabolism, which is the core in connection with cell factory design and many human metabolic diseases.
The network brings together engineers, biologists and medical doctors with the objective to evaluate the use of metabolic models developed in traditional engineering fields in medical sciences.
