Bridging Nordic Imaging - Enabling Discoveries from Atoms to Anatomy

The overall goal of this project is to form a strong Nordic platform and to facilitate more efficient collaboration between Nordic countries, by organizing seminar series, directed for all Nordic imaging institutes and their students. The seminar series consist of three meetings, a planning meeting and two scientific meetings. Each seminars will cover one research topic, which is approached from different imaging perspective. Each partner representative and will partake in meetings to present and discuss the approach of their institute to the research topic.

In the last two decades, the development of imaging technologies has revolutionized research in the life sciences and medicine, and it currently emerges as one of the most important areas in biomedical research. This has enabled both greater resolution and more quantitative imaging to study diverse biological processes and in contrast to create highly detailed images of whole human body when studying diseases like cancer and metabolic disorders.

Development of imaging technologies has divided them into two groups: biological and clinical imaging. Biological imaging ranges from single-molecule visualization inside cells to intravital imaging in living animals, it concentrates on research. Clinical imaging is used to image the human body and its functions. Albeit, all these technologies and methods are well represented in all Nordic countries, networking between them seems to be weak. Collaboration between these mainstream imaging paths enables faster and better diagnosis and research. Combining the technologies and know-how will provide more solid base for future funding possibilities and strengthening the status of Nordic countries as imaging specialists.

All participating countries in this application; Finland, Sweden, Norway already establish network organizations at national level that provide a full spectrum of biological and clinical imaging tools that are easily accessible for both academic and industry users. “BRIDGING NORDIC IMAGING - ENABLING DISCOVERIES FROM ATOMS TO ANATOMY” -network aims to become a new Nordic platform to facilitate more efficient collaboration between these countries, strengthening the bridge between biological and clinical imaging. The three bioimaging networks are united under the Euro-Bioimaging -consortium leading the whole Europe working toward a better research, diagnostics and patient care.
