Tools for Investigating Climate Change at High Northern Latitudes (eSTICC)

Vi oplever mærkbare klimaændringer, som er særligt tydelige i de polare regioner. Der er et stort behov for at kunne måle, lave prognoser og evaluere disse ændringer, hvis vi skal kunne forstå dem bedre.

eSTICC er en samling computer- og klimaeksperter, som sammen vil forbedre de værktøjer, som bruges til netop dette. De indsamler observationsdata, der bl.a. bestemmer drivhusgasudledning, og lagrer dem i eksisterende databaser, så de bliver lettere tilgængelige og bedre integreret med de data, som allerede eksisterer. Centret arbejder også med at forbedre værktøjer til at beregne forandringer i klima og miljø med et særligt fokus på metoder, som er tilpasset vor nordlige region. Målet er at opnå bedre forståelse og mere præcis prognoser af klimaprocesser. eSTICC’s arbejde spænder over et bredt felt inden for udvikling af værktøjer og håndtering af data inden for klima- og miljøforskning med fokus på at udnytte synergier mellem de forskellige fagområder.

Ud over det faglige arbejde, lægger Andreas Stohl stor vægt på Open Source development og Open Access publicering.

Andreas Stohl leder centret, der er tilknyttet NiLU (Norwegian Institute for Air Research) i Norge. I alt 13 forskningsinstitutioner fra Finland, Island, Grønland, Danmark, Sverige og Norge deltager i arbejdet.
