Call for new research on Nordic and Baltic education systems draws many applications

The engagement from the Baltic countries was especially high as 93 out of the 143 project proposals include Estonian and/or Lithuanian partners.

The ambition is to fund five Nordic or Nordic-Baltic projects. The funding decision will be made and announced at the end of the year.

29 per cent of the project owners, that is the institution of the project leader, are from Finland, 27 per cent from Sweden, 25 per cent from Norway, 9 per cent from Denmark, 4 per cent from Estonia, 5 per cent from Lithuania, and 1,4 per cent from Iceland. One of the proposals has a project owner from the Faroe Islands.

“Receiving this many proposals shows just how timely this call is. Across the Nordic and Baltic region, researchers are clearly eager to generate new knowledge about education systems in a period of rapid social and technological change – knowledge that can support equity, inclusion and democratic resilience. The fact that 93 of the 143 proposals include Estonian and/or Lithuanian researchers sends a clear signal of strong interest in Nordic–Baltic research collaboration in the field of education,” says senior adviser Bethina Strandberg-Jensen and special adviser Bodil Aurstad.

Funding

This call is funded by the Independent Research Fund Denmark, the Research Council of Finland, the Research Council of the Faroe Islands, the Icelandic Centre for Research (Rannís), the Research Council of Norway, the Swedish Research Council, the Estonian Research Council, the Research Council of Lithuania, and NordForsk.
