Extra funding for research on antagonistic threats

NordForsk announced on 1 December 2025 that seven new projects will research antagonistic threats to strengthen resilience in the Nordic and Baltic regions. Since then, we have been in dialogue with the Research Council of Norway and the Research Council of Estonia about the possibility of funding one more project. The total amount granted by NordForsk to the Nordic partners is NOK 12,300,000. In addition, the Estonian partner will be granted an amount equivalent to NOK 1,652,001.

This is the new project: Authoritarianism Gone North: Transnational Repression in Unsafe Havens

Project leader: Erlend Paasche from Institute for Social Research in Oslo.

Project partners: Norway, Sweden and Estonia.

Special adviser in NordForsk Sampsa Kaataja says:

“We at NordForsk are very pleased that another project has been funded under this call. The topic of Nordic–Baltic unsafe havens is timely and important, and it adds an interesting dimension to the portfolio of projects funded through the Antagonistic Threats call.”

These projects have already received funding under the same call.
