This year’s edition of our annual impact report focuses on our active portfolio, unlike previous editions, which included completed projects that still report to us. Limiting the report to projects that are currently ongoing gives us an arguably more representative overview.
Our active portfolio includes 164 projects in total, of which 134 reported during this year’s submission period, giving a response rate of 81.71 per cent.
Output, outcomes and impact
The report includes impact stories from some of our projects, an overview of the Nordic added value generated by our projects, and a representative cross-section of activities, showing which outputs are generated, which sectors of society they impact and what difference they make.
“Understanding how research contributes to new knowledge, stronger research environments, policy development and societal benefits helps us learn, improve and make better funding decisions. It also strengthens transparency and accountability,” writes Johnny Mogensen, director of NordForsk, in his preface.
“The purpose of this report is to highlight some of these contributions. It illustrates the many ways in which Nordic research co-operation creates value, often over long periods of time and sometimes extending beyond the original objectives of individual projects,” he continues.
Changes to NordForsk impact reporting
Next year will bring some changes to the impact reporting as we are currently developing a new reporting infrastructure.
“This gives us the opportunity to streamline and revise our own protocols and processes, and we aim for a lean, easy-to-use, end product. The objective is that this will provide even better documentation of the outputs, outcomes and impact of NordForsk-funded research,” says analytics officer Simon Jernroth.
“Our annual Impact Report and the method behind it, ranging from philosophy to data infrastructure, continues to garner attention. We have been happy to share the experiences and insights with partners and stakeholders in our network, and it is an enlightening learning process for us.”
