The Nordic-Baltic Dataverse Hub aims to establish a collaborative framework for research data repositories in the Nordic-Baltic region, fostering alignment, resource sharing, and innovation. By leveraging the Dataverse software as a shared technological backbone, the hub will support participating repositories in achieving and sustaining FAIR-enabling Trustworthy Digital Repository (TDR) status. This will enhance the availability, interoperability, and sustainability of research data infrastructure, empowering researchers to practice Open Science and conduct accountable high-quality, data-driven research.
The hub brings together institutions from Norway, Denmark, Iceland, the Faroe Islands, Latvia, and Lithuania, representing a diverse range of national, institutional, and domain-specific repositories. Through collaboration, the hub will address common challenges such as achieving CoreTrustSeal (re-)certification, integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) into repository functions, and building human capacity through training and mentorship programs.
Key activities include developing shared resources, such as guidelines and templates for TDRs, implementing joint technical operations to enhance cost-effectiveness, and fostering community engagement through workshops, webinars, and outreach initiatives. The hub will also promote Nordic perspectives in international research infrastructure networks, such as EOSC, FIDELIS, and the Global Dataverse Community Consortium (GDCC).
By building critical mass, reducing duplication of effort, and strengthening Nordic competence and competitiveness, the hub will create significant Nordic added value. It will position the Nordic-Baltic region as a leader in research data management and Open Science, contributing to its international influence and impact.
The project aligns with the FAIR and TRUST principles, Open Science practices, and the European Commission’s guidelines on responsible AI use, ensuring ethical and sustainable implementation. The hub’s activities will have a lasting impact, establishing a resilient framework for Nordic-Baltic collaboration on research data repositories and ensuring its value extends well beyond the project period.
