This call is announced as a collaborative effort between national funding agencies in Sweden, Norway, Estonia, and Lithuania, as well as NordForsk.
The objective of the call is to jointly fund research projects of highest international quality and societal relevance with clear added value from multilateral collaboration. Migration and integration are complex and constantly evolving phenomena that require continued research in order to understand and effectively address the challenges and opportunities that arise from the influx of migrants. With a better understanding of the factors that influence the integration process, policymakers and practitioners can develop more effective policies and programmes that support the integration of migrants into the host society. Additionally, research on migration and integration can help to dispel myths and stereotypes about migrants and their impact on society, and instead provide a more nuanced and accurate understanding of the realities of migration and its consequences.
The call will address the following themes:
- Integration processes and patterns
- Social cohesion and inequalities
- Politics and governance of migration and integration
Who is eligible to apply?
The research projects must include partners from research performing organisations* in at least three Nordic countries, or two Nordic countries and Lithuania and/or Estonia. Nordic countries are defined here as Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Faroe Islands, Greenland, and Åland. Please note that a research institution in Norway and/or Sweden must be part of the project consortium.
The host institution (Project Owner) for the research project must be a research performing organisation based in one of the countries co-funding the call: Sweden, Norway, Estonia and Lithuania.
If the project owner is a research performing organisation in Estonia or Lithuania, the project must also have a co-host institution in Sweden or Norway which NordForsk enters into contract with concerning the Nordic part of the project.
*A research performing organisation is a legal entity which is a university, university college or a research institute, and is characterised by the following:
- A primary goal is to independently conduct fundamental research and/or applied research and or research-based innovation where results are published.
- The entity may be private or public but must not pay out dividends from its activities.
- The entity must have significant production of academic, published research.
Funding
The maximum amount of funding that may be sought is MNOK 10,5.
The project duration is three-four years. Project funding will be available for the period 2025-2028.
The application deadline is expected to be in May 2024.
